How to Rent, Buy or Preview a Film

Rentals

Films are available for rental on various formats such as 16mm, 35mm, Super 8, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and Beta SP in NTSC and PAL. Contact the Distribution Manager for information and available formats for a specific title.

ORDERING

To order titles for rental, please download and fill out the CFMDC Booking Form and email to the Distribution Manager at bookings(at)cfmdc.org.

To ensure availability, domestic orders should be received two weeks before screening date, U.S. orders three weeks before screening date and international orders five weeks before. We will accommodate later requests as best as possible. Notice of cancellation must be received by us ten days prior to screening date or you will be billed for the full order.

PAYMENT

Once a booking has been confirmed, prepayment is required before we can ship the films. Payment may be made by institutional cheque, money order or by credit card through PayPal. If you wish to pay by credit card, please indicate when you order and we will send you a PayPal invoice.d

SHIPPING

Clients are responsible for two-way shipping costs via courier. Outbound shipping costs via Canada Post Xpresspost or DHL will be added to the rental invoice. DO NOT SHIP RETURN BY UPS as this will result in brokerage and customs charges which we cannot pay, and your package will be returned to you.

FILM RETURNS

Films must be returned immediately after the scheduled screening date. Films not returned by scheduled return date will be charged a late fee of $25.00 per week.

Fee Schedule

Rental rates for single, library and multiple screenings are standardized. Fees are determined by the film's duration, format and usage. Sale and rental prices quoted do not include shipping, customs charges or taxes.

NOTES

This schedule is a guideline only. Because filmmakers set their own rates, some rental and sale prices may vary from this schedule. Please contact CFMDC for an exact quote on specific titles.

Rental discounts are available when booking multiple titles. Please inquire for rates.

Multiple screenings: First screening is charged at the full rate, each subsequent screening is calculated at 50% of the single screening rate.

Sale prices for K-12 are generally 50% of the educational sale price.

Film prints (16mm and 35mm) are available for purchase for some titles, depending on the availability of printing elements. Prices depend on current lab costs, contact the Distribution Manager to inquire about specific titles.

Some titles are available for purchase for home/personal use. Please contact the Distribution Manager to inquire about specific titles.

Purchases

Films are available for purchase to institutions, including Public Performance Rights for educational, library or classroom use. Available formats depend on the title but include 35mm film, 16mm film, DVD, Blu-Ray and VHS (NTSC or PAL). Fees are determined by the film's duration and format, see the Fee Schedule above for price guidelines. Purchase means lease for the life of the videotape, DVD, Blu-Ray or film print. Performance rights are for educational, library or classroom use by the acquiring institution for non-paying audiences only. For public screenings or where admission is charged, institutions are required to pay a rental fee. Please see our License Agreement for full terms. Additional copies of the same title may be purchased for 50% of the list price if purchased at the same time.

Orders may be made by mail or email. Please include institutional purchase order or PO number, and shipping and billing addresses. You may also use the CFMDC Purchase Request Form and email to the Distribution Manager at bookings(at)cfmdc.org

PAYMENT

Fees are determined by the film's duration and format, see the Fee Schedule above for price guidelines. Sale prices quoted include Public Performance Rights for educational use, but do not include shipping, customs charges or taxes. All Canadian sales are subject to HST.

Once a purchase has been confirmed, prepayment is required except for orders accompanied by an institutional purchase order. All international clients must pay in U.S. funds. Payment may be made by institutional cheque, money order or by credit card through PayPal. If you wish to pay by credit card, please indicate when you order and we will send you a PayPal invoice.

SHIPPING

For sales, clients are responsible for one-way shipping and any additional shipping costs such as air-freight, customs charges and rush-shipping. The following fees cover standard shipping & handling within Canada and the United States:

Videotape and DVD Sales Shipping:
1-2 titles - $5
3-5 titles - $10
6-9 titles - $20
10 or more - $25

International orders please add $5 per shipment to the above prices. Shipping fees for film prints depend on the size and weight of the print.

EXCHANGES & RETURNS

If a tape or DVD arrives damaged, we will replace it at no cost. If a tape or DVD is damaged after purchase, a replacement copy can be purchased for 50% of the list price, plus shipping. All damaged material must be returned to the CFMDC prior to replacement.

Previews

Previews for possible rental or purchase are available free of charge. CFMDC will cover the cost of outbound shipping, preview copies must be returned to CFMDC at your expense. Not all titles will be available for preview.

IN PERSON: If you are in Toronto, you may book time to come watch previews at the Centre. Please email the Distribution Manager to book a time and provide a list of film titles at least two days in advance.

BY MAIL: Please email the Distribution Manager with your name, mailing address, purpose of the preview, and a list of film titles. Please note that preview requests require a minimum 2-week turnaround to fill. Rush requests will be charged a $25 service fee.
