Phillip Barker

Phillip Barker is a filmmaker, installation artist and production designer. His own films have been widely shown internationally and have won numerous awards. In 2019 a retrospective of Phillip’s films: Strange Machines, The Films of Phillip Barker, and a book of the same name, (by Mike Hoolboom) was presented by Montreal’s Festival Nouveau Cinema, TIFF Lightbox, Toronto, and The Canadian Film Institute, Ottawa. Also In 2019 The Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, France hosted the retrospective and an art exhibition of artists inspired by Phillip’s films. At the 2017 Vancouver International Film Festival, Barker’s film Shadow Nettes won the award for Best Canadian Short Film. As a production designer, he has designed films by directors such as Atom Egoyan, Brian DePalma and Mira Nair.
