Michael Wallin

Michael Wallin has been producing independent films for almost 30 years, beginning in 1968 while studying and working with Bruce Baillie in California. He studied film as an undergraduate at Yale University and University of California/Berkeley. In 1976 Michael received an M.A. in Film from San Francisco State University. He has worked as a lab technician, freelance editor and cameraman. He was the manager of Canyon Cinema from 1975-1978 and taught film production and theory at California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland and Antioch/West College from 1980-1982. He was also owner and operator of San Francisco matching Service ( a negative conforming business). Wallin’s films have screened internationally and won numerous awards. In 1989 his film “Decodings” was chosen to be part of the Whitney Museum Biennal Exhibition and toured around the world via the American Federation of Arts. For his entire body of work Wallin received the James D. Phelan Art Award in Filmmaking. The Museum of Modern Art presented a one-man screening of his films in 1990.
