Janie Geiser

Janie Geiser is an internationally renowned theatre artist and filmmaker, whose films are “as extravagantly beautiful as they are difficult, and as allusive as they are elusive” (Cinemascope). Geiser’s work is recognized for its sense of mystery, its detailed evocation of self-contained worlds, and its strength of design. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, and has been recognized with fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Pew Foundation, the NEA, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Jerome Foundation. Her films have been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the San Francisco Film Festival, the Images Festival, ALIVE TV, REEL NY, NEW TELEVISION and other PBS venues. Her films have premiered in three New York Film Festivals (1996, 1998, and 2000), with three films featured in the 2000 Views from the Avant-Garde. She is currently working on a collaborative music/film/theater work with singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt, which will be presented as a work-in-progress in New York in November 2001.
