David Baeumler

David Baeumler graduated from Bard College in 1992 after studying under avant-garde film greats Peter Hutton, Peggy Ahwesh and Adolfas Mekas. He then wandered the desert of commercial film and video production for many years before returning to a more personal, philosophical vision. His films have played at festivals and museums all over the world including International Film Festival Rotterdam, Biennial of Moving Images in Geneva, Los Angeles Film Festival, Mill Valley, Anthology Film Archives in New York City, The Brooklyn Arts Council Gallery and the Albright Knox Museum of Art. Baeumler currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts. DIRECTOR STATEMENT Identity and place. Each transforms the other as we move through life. Where we live shapes who we become and our perception of these places keep changing as we grow. Our memory bends the landscape – exaggerating some features and diminishing others. And as we remember places differently, our identity also shifts. At what point do our remembrances of places become completely abstracted from the physical reality of the environment? And how does that abstraction affect who we are?
