Sonja Mills

Sonja Mills is a Toronto-based playwright and performer. Her first major theatre work, “Dyke City,” was so wildly popular that a sequel was soon in the works. In all, the cult-hit stage series enjoyed a run of nine episodes over six years (1996-2002) at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto. In 2003 Mills’ “The Danish Play,” a major work about the human costs of war, was produced by Nightwood Theatre. Acclaimed by both critics and audiences, the piece toured to Copenhagen (Aveny-T Theatre), Edmonton (Magnetic North Festival) and Ottawa (National Arts Centre). Mills’ newest full-length work, “Poison,” is currently in development with CanStage Theatre. “Dyke City,” based loosely on the stage series of the same name, is Sonja’s first film.
