Irene Kuchilan

She was born in Havana, Cuba, where she started her career performing leading roles in TV dramas and sitcoms,and directing TV dramas and documentaries for which she was renowned due to her original style. At the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematography (ICAIC) she wrote and directed 35mm short films which screened at major festivals and were bought by Canal Plus in France and Channel Four in England, gaining international recognition and awards such as The Havana International Film Festival Coral for You Speak As If You Knew Me (Hablas como si me conocieras), as well as other woks for their innovative subject and approach. She has participated as juror in the category of Fiction at various film-related events in Canada, Latin America and Europe. A member of the Writers Guild of Canada with several projects in development, she has performed principal roles as an actress in American and Canadian TV movies and series. Cleaning For Love, which received production and direction grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers, is her first project produced in Canada.
