Roger WIlson

Cooper the Film Scientist is an experimental media artist who lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He has a need to continuously investigate filmmaking processes, and the technical gear associated with them. He creates his films using techniques such as optical printing, contact printing, hand processing, and emulsion manipulation. Cooper is known for his technique of manipulating film emulsion prior to photographing images. He has buried black and white and colour 16mm film stocks in soil, bathed it in baking soda, berg colour toner, household bleach and photographic bleach all before photographing the film’s images. Cooper also explores the science behind film emulsion making, organic film developer recipes and tinting and toning using household ingredients. Since 2008 he has also been involved in alternative cinema experiences and has created a number of unique and new ways of viewing the moving image. The Film Scientist is an award winning film artist, his films have screened at festivals and art galleries across Canada and Internationally
