Luk, Sam

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Sam Luk is a self-taught writer-director based in Canada. Since 2009, Sam has been making films about inner life, exploring how a person may relate to others and oneself through memory and the imagination, under the potentially mutable circumstances of spacetime and identity. Sam’s short films have been screened and awarded at international festivals such as Taos, Maremetraggio, Bogotá Experimental, and Girona. Sam also worked as a finishing editor for broadcast series and theatrical features, including CBC’s “The Nature Of Things” with David Suzuki and the animated feature film “Window Horses” produced by Sandra Oh. In 2021, one of Sam’s feature scripts was shortlisted at the Whistler Film Festival Screenwriter’s Lab. In 2022, Sam received production funding from Canada Council for the Arts for “Pieces Within”, a proof-of-concept for a feature he’s currently developing.
