Host your event in the unique CineCycle, an underground cinema and bicycle repair shop opened by Martin Heath in 1991 and housed in the Victorian-era coach house at 401 Richmond since 1994. CineCycle has been an essential part of Toronto’s indie and experimental film community since its inception.

Since the 1960s, Martin Heath has been at the forefront of Toronto’s alternative cinema scene. A passionate filmmaker and cyclist, he has worked as a film print handler, projectionist, and cinema builder for notable organizations including the Toronto International Film Festival.

For over 30 years, CineCycle has remained a vibrant, spontaneous, and community-driven cinema space that continues Martin’s vision of alternative, accessible independent film programming in Toronto.

In order to steward that legacy into the future, the CFMDC recently took over management of CineCycle’s operations. CFMDC@ CineCycle marks a new chapter for this historic space—we honour Martin’s pioneering spirit while continuing CineCycle’s tradition of working with artist run centres, independent filmmakers, and the alternative film community in Toronto.

(approximate number) Please note: The venue holds around 55 people, with a maximum of 60, including organizers.

Please note: if yes, you will need to provide proof of a Special Occasion Permit. Please review the AGCO Website and reach out if you have questions.

Please note that while we are working with the 401 building to improve accessibility and make CineCycle fully wheelchair accessible, there are currently some limitations. The laneway entrance beside 129 Spadina has two steps, and the doors do not have automatic openers. The back entrance has no steps, but the pathway is uneven. Inside, the venue is all on one level, including the gender-neutral washrooms. If you have any accessibility needs or would like to arrange a walkthrough of the space in advance, please feel free to reach out.
