History & Community
CineCycle was founded in 1991 by Martin Heath and moved to the historic coach house at 401 Richmond in 1994.
For decades the space has supported Toronto’s alternative film culture. Heath’s projects include the experimental feature The Son of Tutti Frutti (1972) and The Mobile Cinema, an inflatable travelling cinema that toured Ontario in the late 1970s.
Today CineCycle is stewarded by the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre (CFMDC), continuing its role as a gathering place for filmmakers, artists, and audiences.
CFMDC supports the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) as part of our Territory and Solidarity statement. Events hosted at CineCycle should align with our commitment to cultural solidarity and ethical programming.
