Jonathan Wald

Originally from Palo Alto, California, Jonathan Wald travelled as far from home as possible – to Taree, NSW, Australia – to make “What Grown-Ups Know.” Jonathan first came to Australia on a Fulbright Award to study at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. The short film he made there, “Lillian & I,” won a Silver Remi at Houston Worldfest; Best Short, Direction, and Cinematography at the Student Film Festival in Santiago, Chile; and was nominated for a Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Jonathan’s three other shorts, made as part of his directing MFA at UCLA Film School, have between them screened at over 70 festivals around the world. “In My Secrecy” (1999, 16mm, 8 min.) won a Cine Eagle Award and the Best Narrative Short Award at the Reel Affirmations Festival. “Just Out of Reach” (1998, 16mm, 3 min.) was a finalist in the Independent Film Channel’s National Student Shorts Competion. “Lives of the Pharaohs “(2001, 16mm, 15 min.) won the Audience Award for Narrative at the Planetout Queer Shorts competition, and continues to show on the Sundance Channel. In addition, Jonathan produced Carl Pfirman’s Student Academy Award-winning short film “The Confession.” He also won a Motion Picture Association of America Award and UCLA’s Edia and Lew Wasserman Directing Award.
