Benjamin Rouse
Benjamin grew up on a farm in Ontario, Canada. He made his first film at 13 years old on 8mm. The little social commentary on the feudal system was shown at his junior high school to rave reviews. Some years later, he started acting while attending the University of Toronto. The Ford Modeling Agency scouted him and he left for Europe to work in Milan and Paris. After traveling extensively for three years he moved to New York to pursue acting as a career. He studied at several well-established theatre schools and moved on to work as the lead in plays and explore the independent film scene. He decided to move to the west coast after going to L.A. to do a guest appearance on a Television series. Some notable roles include a guest starring role on ‘Melrose Place’ and the lead role in the Stephen King film ‘Rainy Season’. While in LA he also started getting involved behind the camera. He worked as Director’s Assistant on several music video productions including the video ‘Up Here’ by the band Powder, which was the first spec video ever to be aired on MTV.
He recently moved back to Toronto and started branching into writing and directing. He started the film company Resolve Films Inc. (www.resolvefilms.com) and began working on his first two short films as a writer/director. They are the comedy ‘In Search of Johnny Dean’ and the drama ‘b r o k e n’. He recently completed these films and is submitting them to film festivals internationally. ‘In Search of Johnny Dean’ has been accepted into the Montreal Festival de Films Avec Twist and he was nominated Best First Film Director. He recently produced and acted in the film ‘Butterfly Child’, presently in post-production. Making these films has left him with a newfound respect for the incredible amount of work involved in the filmmaking process, as well as the desire to move on to make feature length films.
