
Kalli Paakspuu
Kalli Paakspuu has published widely on film and photography and earned a doctorate from University of Toronto for a dissertation on early indigenous use of visual art and photography in international relations. She was a co-founder of the feminist non-profit, Womenfilm/Womenart Inc., where she produced, co-wrote and co-directed her Genie Award winning collaboration
with Daria Stermac, “I Need a Man Like You to Make My Dreams Come True” (Best Live Action Dramatic Short). She has served as President of the Scarborough Arts Council and on the boards of Womenfilm/Womenart, Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre and Toronto Filmmakers Co-op. She was a professor for three years in Sheridan’s Animation, Art and Design Programme and has been part-time faculty in York University’s Film programme since 1989. As a resident in CFC’s interactive and entertainment programme she was a creator of “World Without Water”which was curated into an international exhibition of interactive arts at The Cultural Olympiad in Vancouver in 2010 after making sensation athe Nui Blanche Festival. She has made several short films and co-curated with Daria Stermac WomenfilmWomenart’s “”Women’sPerspective in Cinema series at Ontario Institute of Studies in Education. She co curated a 20th anniversary travelingexhibition of CFMDC films and has curated Canadian films for Substation in Singapore.She was the programme director of EstDoc’s FimFestival.
