Arijit Debnath

Arijit Debnath is a Bengali-Canadian filmmaker and animator. In an experimental cinematic practice that involves a tracing of cultural and diasporic identity, he renders how personal, cultural and cinematic memory are intertwined. With animations that are motivated by hand drawn, cut out, or collage techniques all captured in camera, his images are almost always in response to archival material or found footage, which he reframes to create his own narrative. He continues to explore how his presence as the animator can be felt in the image.
