  • Kafka’s Meditation

“Kafka’s Meditation” is based on five short stories published by Franz Kafka in the early 1900’s, while he lived on the bank of the Vltava River in Prague. The stories serve as touchstones for feelings of longing, belonging, anxiety, paranoia, disorientation and ambiguous sexual identity. These conditions are explored through the lens of a person living with Body Focused Repetitive Behaviour (BFRB), a categorization of mental wellness that falls within the spectrum of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

  • monolithic tenderness

A tessellating flicker film that seeks to undo the cold, impersonal architecture of the city by dousing it in organic and domestic forms. Featuring a collaged soundtrack of spam phone calls, pulsing synth chords, bagpipe drones, and a lullaby sung to my daughter while in-utero.

  • Switch Over

A winter in motion. After Monday comes Friday. Switch over. People move around, but I stay still. Switch over. A distant smile. After Wednesday comes Sunday. Switch over. Everything is close by. Why don’t you look up? Switch off.

  • Instant Karma

Thermal imaging animation and Tibetan singing bowls create circles of enlightenment as a sensory meditation experience. The fusion of animated thermal visuals and sonic meditation bells aim for mind-body integration, where the viewer experiences a transformative state. The animation utilizes pulsating thermal heat maps of bowls with varying temperatures of water, shifting colours to visualize the physical sound waves of bells. These circles represent the mandala as a sensory experience toward a central point of enlightenment.

  • Conversations 26

A mural of images and sounds assembled from various phases of my life, and an attempt to reconnect with my past narrative films. The search for patterns, through repetitions and reflections, is both within the materials used and in the ways I have combined them – and it extends to the mind of the viewer. Making the film involved a kind of conversation between these recordings and myself. Working without a preconceived structure, I approached the material intuitively, in a manner similar to that of a fine artist. It is part of human nature to search for meaning, and I…

  • End Rolls #2

‘End Rolls #2’ is a digital scan from the 16mm colour negative film ‘End Rolls’ (2009), originally a three-projector 16mm film and sound performance. Inspired by the colour fluctuations that appear at the beginnings and ends of developed film rolls, the work was made by exposing colour negative film directly to light sources such as candles, stove flames, and room lights by opening the camera body rather than using the lens. Positive prints were projected simultaneously on three unsynchronised projectors, causing shifting colour rhythms across the screens. Sound was also generated directly from the images using light-sensitive diodes attached to…
