Sonya Reynolds
Sonya Reynolds is a Toronto-based artist working in video and photography, whose work uses creativity and humor to explore alternative histories and marginalized communities. Much of her work documents activities or personalities in the Toronto queer community. She has an ongoing collaboration with artist Lauren Hortie; as MidKnife Films they make award-winning short shadow-puppet animated videos illustrating otherwise forgotten true stories from Toronto's queer history. These videos have premiered at Inside Out queer film festival in Toronto, won awards at REEL Pride in Winnipeg, and have been the focus of a visual arts exhibition at Videofag Cinema and Performance Lab and a collaboration with Myseum Toronto. She has also made several short videos with performers such as ManChyna and the New Matriarchy.
