  • Chaulera

    A woman runs from her memories. After a dangerous accident she slips into her unconscious, where she has to decide whether to live and face her demons or stay floating in the safety of her mind. Shot on Super-8 and then optically printed and manipulated on 16mm, this is a film that tells its story as much through texture and sound as narrative. It features a composition for string quartet composed by the director.

  • Pink Shirt

    In the late summer, a young man wanders through an urban park in the late afternoon, seeking a connection to the music and sights around him. He wears a pink shirt. He reads a book, lays down on the grass and has a daydream. As dusk turns to twilight, he reflects on another young man who was in his life.

  • Berlin Zoo

    The footage for “Berlin Zoo” was taken in Germany while I was travelling there in the winter of 2003. This is an anecdotal film, set to an original song by the filmmaker.

  • Pepere’s Chairs

    The story of Pepere’s Chairs was conceived by my mother, visual artist Maryse Maynard. It is a playful tale about a group of chairs that once belonged to her ancestors. Once the film had been recorded and edited, it was projected onto hand-embroidered canvases which served as the screen. Maryse had embroidered the canvases with chairs, and every once in a while, an embroidered chair could be glimpsed floating in the background of the film.

    “A super-short Super 8 remake camps up the Coppola classic. An obsession of mine, and a lot of other girls, this movie touched my sense of belonging at a time when I felt I had none – teenagehood. Years later, when tomboy-ish has matured into gender-bending queerness, 21 grown ‘girls’ play at ‘boyhood’.   • Resurrection

    “Resurrection,” a hand-processed Super 8 blow-up, uses direct animation techniques such as scratching, bleaching and painting onto the emulsion of the film, in order to invoke the awakening of the feminine.

  • Twirl Girl

    “Twirl Girl” is a study of circular motion. It incorporates hand processing, xerography, rotoscoping and found footage in order to transpose the image of a woman dancing in circular fashion.

  • Breakdance Hunx (Market Value Mix)

    An homage to the cylists of the world and routes less traveled. Referencing The Smiths, Run DMC, and Kenneth Anger, this video follows six bike gangs through back alleys and side streets. The gangs travel to a park where a dance battle ensues.
