Sunstone
A moon-faced mask is transformed, made to gleam with vibrant, radiant light and colour. Pulling back, the camera reveals other versions of the mask on the sides of a rotating cube and, on one of the cube’s sides, a Marey-like depiction of human movement is traced and colourized. The control of movement, the creation of a sense of holographic space, and the array of colours are products of the film’s computer animation, using some of the techniques developed by the New York Institute of Technology.

Swan, The
Volumes have been written on “The Dying Swan,” the dramatic ballet solo first choreographed by Michel Fokine and made famous by Anna Pavlova. The dancer interprets the swan’s struggle for life in the face of the inevitable approach of death. In “The Swan,” as the dancer assumes the poses and movements of a swan, the animation dissolves in, transforming the human interpretation of the bird into an animated swan which continues the choreography of the now invisible dancer. The dance dissolves back in picking u,p the movement of the animation. This back-and-forth interplay continues throughout the film.

TEKNICLY INKORECT
While primarily an entertaining tale, “Teknicly Inkorect” is also a film that explores the processes of film sound and image, spectatorship, program-ming and projection, while relating it thematically to a caveat against global over-reliance on technical expertise. It quotes from filmic forms such as documentary, experi-mental, animation and drama, and involves the layering of several levels of images and sound. “Teknicly Inkorect” uses documentary live action, cel animation, undercamera object animation layered over cel, cutout animation, computer-assisted undercamera animation, and copier animation.
