Genres: experimental

  • Hunter-Gatherer

A traditional slide show disintegrates into fragmentary forms. Using re-photographic methods that mimic the mechanics of recollection, the artist’s family slide images are reframed, distorted and hand-processed. An attempt to grasp a personal memory surrounding the taking of the originals.

  • Family Portrait

Through re-photography and the combination of narration and imagery, “Family Portrait” deconstructs a family photograph and its ability to conceal a past rather than reveal one.

  • Travel Film

The artifacts of filmed footage, photographs and postcards are used to construct a personal travelogue that consciously misrepresents the empirical truth of their contents. All of the picture and sound elements contained in this work were collected on the filmmaker’s travels.

  • Come Alive

A mock commercial which documents the growing problem of pollution on the beaches and deserts of Baja, Mexico. We truly are a “Pepsi generation.”

  • Cathode Ray Tube

“Cathode Ray Tube” explores society’s obsession with television. While indulging in his favourite past time, Raymond’s brain goes into overdrive.

  • Meat

A taxidermist talks about his philosophies on life and his experiences during more than 25 years in a small but competitive business.

  • Sink or Swim

Finally, straight out of the archives, this rare historical footage has been recovered from the National Synchronized Swimming vault. Ballet arms, jazz hands and strangely perfect routines make up the performances of six talented women, the “Sassy Synchronized Swimmers.” This team virtually walks on water during the Golden Cap Championship in the Banff National Park.

  • Animal Nightmares

“Animal Nightmares” is a conceptual music film which explores the spiritual connection between man and nature. The conflict between man and animal states, extinction and existence, conjures the sad truth that our survival in the modern world is not a given. Featuring music and animation by Paul Watson.

  • Pepe

“Pepe” shows us the transformation of animal to food. But the animal resists! It does not submit to the power of the knife, the spice and the heat. Who walks out victorious, the cook or the cooked?

  • She was so young back then

A rephotographed excerpt from “Fast Times at Ridgemount High” is reconstituted as seedy pornography.
