    “Glide” is a short experimental animation depicting ice skating. A lone skater appears on the crisp white ice, making her way around the oval of the rink and the loop of the film. Drawn with India ink on watercolour paper, the fluid strokes of the skater’s motion is echoed in the watery brush strokes and the pools of dark glistening ink. Each time around the rink/loop, the frame rate of the animation is slowed down thus extending the skater’s motions and revealing more details in the drawings.     Isabelle is a thirty-three year old female boxer from the south shore of Montreal. As an athlete, she inevitably relies on her body. The body is like a mechanical engine. Her gym, a cold building made of steel and concrete, is located in the industrial area of an anonymous and typical suburban town.     When the adult survivor of sexual abuse meets her lover, she struggles to remain present. She must remember that the hands of her lover are not the hands of her childhood abuser, and so, the separation between past and present begins to blur. Narrative and experimental, “Blue Covers” is an emotional, psychological and spiritual journey.     Chip and Ovi met in an orphanage near the city of Kluj-Napoca in Romania during their teenage years. Ovi was born with disabilities in his arms and Chip has a severely damaged leg from polio. Both were abandoned shortly after birth to be raised in the care of the state. Despite their difficult situation, they dare to dream big: Chip wants to be an oilman in Texas and Ovi a professional cameraman.   • Borders

    “Borders” is an intimate exploration of the bodies belonging to six queer individuals. This animation, made up of hundreds of high-resolution photographs, unabashedly examines the evidence of physical change and transformation: top surgery scars, tattoos, and other traces. The bodies are fragmented, as are the stories affiliated with these traces, and identities remain delightfully elusive. “Borders” is available as a single-channel work or as an extended installation.

    A dynamic collaboration between Restless Dance Theatre and screen media company Closer Productions, NECESSARY GAMES is a triptych of dance works made specifically for the screen. The young members of Restless ensemble, who predominantly have an intellectual disability, worked with the Closer Productions team to develop these polished films.
